퀸(Queen)은 프레디 머큐리(Freddie Mercury), 브라이언 메이(Brian May), 존 디콘(John Deacon), 로저 테일러(Roger Taylor)로 구성된 영국의 4인조 밴드입니다.  

퀸의 멤버들은 전부 음악과 관련 없는 학과를 전공했는데, 프레디 머큐리는 디자인, 로저 테일러는 치과대학, 브라이언 메이는천체 물리학, 존 디콘은 전자공학을 전공했습니다. 전부 고학력자 멤버였는데 이들이 모여 1971년 밴드 퀸(Queen)을 결성하고 클럽과 대학 공연을 다니다가 밴드를 결성한 지 한참 뒤인 1973년 1집 [Queen]을 발매하게 되었습니다.

1974년에 2집 [Queen II]를 발매했지만, 평론가들에게는 혹평을 많이 받았습니다. 싱글 [Killer Queen]을 발표하면서 처음으로 UK 차트 2위를 달성하고, 이어서 발매한 3집까지 성공하여 승승장구하게 되었습니다. 1975년 4집 

[A Night at the Opera]를 발표했는데 타이틀곡이었던 보헤미안 랩소디가 영국 싱글 차트 1위에 올랐습니다.

프레디 머큐리는 자신이 에이즈에 걸렸다는 걸 알게 된 뒤로는 음악 활동에만 전념했습니다. 음악적으로는 좋은 성적을 거뒀지만 건강이 점점 악화되었고, 프레디의 건강 문제로 투어가 불가능해졌습니다. 결국 1991년에 그는 에이즈 환자임을 스스로 고백하고, 고백한 다음 날인 1991년 11월 24일 에이즈 합병증으로 인한 기관지 폐렴으로 사망하게 되었습니다. 프레디 사후에도 브라이언 메이와 로저 테일러는 꾸준히 활동을 이어가는 중입니다.

 

2020년 1월 18일~19일 양일간 [현대 카드 슈퍼콘서트]에서 퀸의 첫 단독 내한 공연이 개최됩니다. 퀸의 기타리스트 브라이언 메이와 드러머 로저 테일러가 참여하고, 프레디 머큐리의 빈자리를 아메리칸 아이돌 출신의 아담 램버트(Adam Lambert)가 채우게 되었습니다.
